About Treatment

What is Osteopathy?

Osteopathy is a system of traditional and integrative medicine based on an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the anatomy and physiology of the body and how it works in both health and dysfunction. By listening to the body’s inner wisdom the osteopathic treatment harnesses the body’s innate healing capacity to help it move back to a place of balance.

What Happens In Treatment?

That very much depends on you, and why you are seeking treatment. I utilize a wide array of different techniques ranging from the very gentle to the more assertive. Most importantly, your treatment is custom tailored to your needs and preferences. By listening to what your needs are, I can treat you in whatever position is most comfortable for you and with whatever techniques are most appropriate for you. All treatments are performed fully clothed.

How long will I need treatment?

It is important to have realistic expectations. Each person is an individual, and no two people respond to treatment the same. A chronic condition often takes years to develop and will not go away overnight. For more acute problems the course of treatment is shorter. I recommend that patients commit to four treatments because most patients feel significant relief in this time period. A successful series of treatments in an otherwise healthy person means that you eventually don’t need to keep coming back for more treatments for your condition.  Maintenance treatment once every 3 months helps to promote wellness, and maintain a feeling of wellbeing.
